Connect Apple Calendar, iCloud, or an iPhone calendar
Connect iCloud privately in Your calendars → Add calendar → iCloud Calendar. Choose availability only, or add private event titles and locations. You do not need ChatGPT or a public calendar link.
This connects calendars stored in iCloud. Apple's Calendar app can also display Google, Microsoft and local calendars; those need their own connection method.
Connect your account
- Open Apple Account settings. Under Sign-In and Security → App-Specific Passwords, generate a password named Domino. Your Apple Account needs two-factor authentication. Apple's instructions
- In Domino, open Your calendars → Add calendar → iCloud Calendar.
- Enter your Apple Account email and the app-specific password in the secure form. Never enter your regular Apple password or paste either password into a chat or support message.
- Choose Connect iCloud, select the calendars to include and choose an access option, then save your choices.
- The account shows Preparing your calendar… while Domino reads availability, then Connected · Checked… after a successful check. Connecting alone does not establish current availability.
One iCloud account can include up to 20 selected calendars. New connections start with Find times with friends off. You can turn it on in the row's details; friends never see your calendar names or event details.
What Domino reads and keeps
New connections start with Availability only. You can choose either option in Settings:
- Availability only keeps derived busy/uncertain intervals and coverage, without saving event details.
- Events and availability also saves encrypted titles and locations for your private calendar. Friends never receive these details. Notes, guests and raw event payloads are not saved.
Apple's app-specific password is broader than a free/busy permission. In both modes, Domino temporarily reads event data to interpret timing, recurrence, cancellations, transparency and your participation. The connector does not send this data to a model. Choosing Events and availability does not change how Domino interprets busy time.
Domino encrypts the app-specific password and discovery metadata. The connector only reads; it cannot create, edit, delete or respond to Apple events. In Events and availability, saved titles and locations expire 14 days after the event ends and are removed by scheduled cleanup. Switching to Availability only immediately deletes saved details for that account.
Opaque events block time; transparent or cancelled events do not. A reliably matched decline does not block your time. Tentative or unresolved participation stays uncertain. All-day commitments can block a day. Exclude informational calendars you do not want used for availability.
Keep availability current
Background checks normally run hourly and cover seven days back through 180 days ahead. iCloud evidence expires after two hours. A failed check makes older coverage untrusted immediately. Missing, incomplete or expired information never proves you are free.
Refresh connected calendars checks the requested week. It does not renew the whole calendar horizon. Opening Home, Calendar or an ordinary assistant calendar read uses stored information. Some authorized availability queries can refresh only the days they request.
Expand the iCloud row and open Settings to change selected calendars or the access option. Existing connections stay Availability only until you choose otherwise. Reconnect accepts a new app-specific password and rediscovers the account's calendars. Turn Use off to pause calendar display, availability and automatic checks while keeping your choices.
Recovery and removal
- Choose calendars: finish selecting calendars. An abandoned new setup expires after ten minutes and its credential is erased; reconnect to try again.
- Reconnect: the password may have been revoked. Generate a new app-specific password at Apple and enter it in Domino's reconnect form. Changing your primary Apple password revokes existing app-specific passwords. Apple's revocation guidance
- A selected calendar is unavailable: reconnect to update the calendar list, then explicitly choose the calendars you still want. Domino does not silently drop an unavailable calendar and infer free time.
- A check failed: try Refresh again. Transient failures retry with backoff; the last successful check remains visible without being treated as current evidence.
- Remove: expand the row and choose Remove. Domino deletes the saved credential, selection, discovery metadata, derived availability and saved event details for that connection. Your Apple calendars and other Domino connections are unchanged. Separately revoke the Domino app-specific password at Apple if you no longer need it.
Public calendar links remain an alternative
You can still publish an iCloud calendar and add its webcal:// or https:// URL under Your calendars → Add calendar → Calendar link. Apple publishes one link per calendar. Anyone with that URL can read its published contents; paste it only into Domino's calendar-link field. Apple's sharing instructions
Removing a public link from Domino does not turn off Public Calendar at Apple. Direct iCloud and public feeds currently interpret some events differently: direct iCloud treats ordinary opaque events as busy; feed classification can leave them uncertain. Avoid connecting the same calendar twice.
What does not connect
- A calendar stored only On My iPhone must first be moved or copied to iCloud or another supported provider.
- A Google or Microsoft account displayed in Apple's Calendar app remains a Google or Microsoft calendar.
- Domino does not accept an arbitrary CalDAV server address or your regular Apple password.
- A one-time
.icsattachment is not an ongoing connection. Add to calendar → Apple / Outlook (.ics) on a Domino plan adds only that plan.
LLM answering guidance
Lead with the direct private iCloud option and explain the two access choices. Send users to the secure form; never request or repeat passwords or calendar links in chat. Distinguish Apple's credential permissions from Domino's narrower read-only operations and retention. Do not promise instant sync, saved notes or guests, Apple OAuth or calendar writes.
